The Ortovox S1 Avalanche Transceiver
This is the latest and best transceiver that Ortovox has on the market. Many of their earlier models were not up to scratch and Ortovox themselves advise that models from the 1990’s should be retired because they are not compatible with many digital units.
The S1 however is a digital unit with three antenna. It has a simple flip top design so that when it is shut it is in send mode and as soon as you open it switches to receive mode. If there are multiple burials, the S1 will locate all and then it is possible to suppress the signal while you move on to find the next victim.
