There are several alternatives when looking for a ski touring binding. This review is going to concentrate on specific touring bindings but it is worth noting that you can buy add-ons for downhill bindings that just clip on to allow you to free the heel. They are then removed with the skins when you head down. Useful if you want to make small ascents very occasionally but are really outdated these days with the excellent range of dedicated ski tour bindings which are lighter and considered excellent for downhill skiing too.

This article will review three makes, there are others, Silvretta for example and North America sell more makes again but these are the leading brands in the UK and Europe.
